Hello, I'm Laura.

I work with students applying to highly selective colleges and universities, including:

  • students applying to arts, design, film, theater, music, dance, and interdisciplinary creative programs
  • academically strong students with serious artistic practices
  • students submitting optional portfolios or creative supplements to non-arts majors
  • interdisciplinary applicants whose artistic identity shapes how they think, research, build, perform, design, or solve problems

Why young creatives?

Highly selective colleges increasingly seek students who bring originality, initiative, creative energy, and unusual ways of thinking to campus communities. However, creativity is often compartmentalized into an "Extracurricular Activities" line item. Admissions readers may see strong academics in one section, artistic work in another, leadership elsewhere—but may not fully understand how a creative practice offers critical insight into an applicant’s foundational character, intellectual development, and identity.

Many creative students possess an unseen advantage: capacities that shape how they think, learn, solve problems, and engage with the world, but whose broader significance is not always recognized within traditional educational systems. In most educational environments, visual and performing arts occupy a different, often lesser position than traditional academic subjects. This is not the result of any individual teacher, administrator, or school failing; it is largely a function of how educational priorities, assessment systems, and college admissions processes have historically been organized. As a result, students often receive fewer opportunities to understand how their creative abilities connect to leadership, research, problem-solving, intellectual inquiry, innovation, or personal growth. They may know they are talented artists, performers, filmmakers, designers, or makers, but not yet understand how deeply those creative capacities influence the way they approach their lives.

My role is to identify the deeper patterns, themes, sensibilities, and intellectual through-lines that already exist within a student's work and help make those qualities legible across the entire application. When creativity becomes an overall sensibility rather than a supplemental category, applications often become more distinctive and memorable. Admissions readers encounter thousands of applications that are competent, accomplished, and carefully assembled. A thoughtfully integrated application can feel different because it reveals a student's thinking, curiosity, and individuality in ways that conventional structures often obscure.
